Decorating with Pastels

I adore pastel colours but HATE that sugary-sweet, twee look that they so often seem to create. I’ve come across a few images of late which have totally perfected pastels in a contemporary setting, so I thought I’d collate them here with a few simple tips on using them in your home without making things look sickly.

The cardinal rule is not to overdo it: opt for one or two dusty, pale pastel colours  on a backdrop of neutral grey, blue, brown or white to keep things looking sophisticated. Or even better, pick several similar shades of the same colour for a really tight, cohesive effect.

If you’re stuck, have a play with this handy tool to pick out complementary colours!

Lucy started writing Decorenvy as a scrapbook to record ideas when she began decorating her own place in 2013. Her frustration at the lack of alternatives to high street brands and catalogue decorating has since seen it evolve into a sourcebook for unusual and interesting design, complete with tours of beautiful homes and the occasional ill-advised DIY project.

bored of the high street.
